This course provides students with the key skills to be an effective manager in any organisational context. The course comprises four units, one of which is prescribed, and others that are drawn from a range of areas, including accounting, business analytics, economics, finance, human resource management, management or marketing enabling you to tailor the degree to suit your work and career goals. This degree serves as an exit point for the Master of Business Administration and the Master of Strategic Organisational Development and Human Resource Management.

Entry Requirements | A candidate shall: (a) hold an AQF Level 7 Bachelor qualification or above in a non-relevant discipline and at least two years full-time equivalent relevant professional experience*; or (b) hold an AQF Level 7 Bachelor qualification or above in a relevant discipline** and at least two years of full-time equivalent relevant professional experience*; or (c) hold an approved AQF Level 6 Advanced Diploma in a relevant discipline** from an Australian TAFE or Registered Training Organisation and have at least four years of full-time equivalent relevant professional experience*; or (d) hold an approved AQF Level 5 Diploma in a relevant discipline** from an Australian TAFE or Registered Training Organisation and have at least six years of full-time equivalent relevant professional experience*; or (e) have at least five years of fulltime equivalent relevant professional experience*; and (f) all applicants must submit two referee's reports from employers or senior colleagues (on company letterhead), and a resume. *Relevant Professional Experience refers to a position of responsibility in any organisation or industry context. **Relevant Disciplines will be determined by the course coordinator. |

Advanced Standing | Candidates admitted under Rules (a) and (e) are referred to the University policy on Advanced Standing. The maximum advanced standing shall be for units counting 12 credit points which were not part of the degree on which admission was based. This may include up to 6 credit points on the basis of completed formal professional development or training. Candidates admitted under Rules (b) and (c) shall be granted a maximum of 12 credit points of Block Advanced Standing based on their admission to candidature. Candidates admitted under Rule (d) shall be granted a maximum of 6 credit points of Block Advanced Standing based on their admission to candidature. Candidates are referred to the University Policy on Advanced Standing. The maximum additional Advanced Standing shall be for units counting 6 credit points which were not part of the degree on which admission was based. The maximum advanced standing shall be for units counting 12 credit points which are deemed equivalent to units offered by UNE and approved for the course and were not part of the degree on which admission was based. Professional Recognition: Candidates who have completed formal professional development/training in their workplace may be eligible for Advanced Standing subject to approval from the Course Coordinator. |

Admission to Candidature

Period of Candidature

The period of candidature for candidates admitted under Rule (d) shall be up to 1.5 years as a part-time candidate.
Course Requirements
To qualify for the award a candidate must pass units to the value of 24 credit points with at least 6 credit points at 500-level and 18 credit points at 400-level or above.

Award of Degree
Candidates who meet the course requirements shall be awarded the Graduate Certificate in Management.

The Graduate Certificate in Management is designed for working professionals seeking to broaden their skills and expand their opportunities within or beyond their current field of employment. The award sets out to provide graduates with an understanding of some business disciplines and their embodied theory and principles, which enables them to effectively identify, analyse and resolve management issues. It also aims to provide an exit point for the Master of Business Administration and the Master of Strategic Organisational Development and Human Resource Management. |

Students will develop an advanced and integrated knowledge of key business and management theory and critically apply knowledge at an advanced level in business contexts to solve business problems. Information LiteracyInformation literacy is taught, practiced and assessed throughout the course as students need to identify, critically evaluate and synthesise relevant information drawn from a range of sources in order to analyse complex business-related issues. Ethical Conduct and Social ResponsibilityThroughout the course, ethical conduct and social responsibility is taught, practised and assessed. Students need to reflect on the principles of professional and social responsibility and critically apply these to a range of ethical issues and scenarios. This is assessed through evaluation and analysis of reflective based and scenario based assessment tasks. Lifelong LearningLifelong learning is taught and assessed in this course through reflective tasks that encourage critical analysis of professional experience, and appreciation of business as a dynamic discipline. Independence and CollaborationThis graduate attribute is taught, practised and assessed in this course.
