Why study the Graduate Diploma in Accounting at UNE?
The Graduate Diploma in Accounting is a course that will service the needs of students requiring up to eight units for accreditation with the professional accounting bodies. It can serve as an entry and exit point for the Master of Professional Accounting. The course comprises eight units (that is 48 credit points) and is usually used to supplement existing studies in accounting to satisfy the entry requirements of the professional accounting organisations. Subjects are drawn from the Master of Professional Accounting and may cover introductory as well as advanced units in accounting, finance, systems, law, auditing, economics and business statistics.

The Graduate Diploma in Accounting is a course that will service the needs of students requiring eight or less units for accreditation with the professional accounting bodies. Once associate membership is obtained students can pursue professional studies with Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand, CPA Australia or the Institute of Public Accountants (IPA) for full membership.

Admission to Candidature
A candidate shall:
(a) hold an AQF Level 7 Bachelor qualification; or
(b) hold an AQF Level 8 Graduate Certificate in Accounting or equivalent.
Advanced Standing
Candidates admitted under Rule (a) are referred to the University Policy on Advanced Standing.
The maximum advanced standing shall be for units counting 24 credit points which are deemed to be equivalent to units offered by UNE and approved for the course.
Candidates admitted under Rule (b) shall be granted a maximum of 24 credit points of Specified Advanced Standing based on their admission to candidature.
Period of Candidature
For candidates admitted under Rule (a) the period of candidature shall be:
(a) one year as a full-time candidate;
(b) up to four years as a part-time candidate.
For candidates admitted under Rule (b) the period of candidature shall be up to two years as a part-time candidate.
Course Requirements
To qualify for the award a candidate must pass units to the value of 48 credit points.

Award of Degree
Candidates who meet the course requirements shall be awarded the Graduate Diploma in Accounting.
Exit Pathways
Subject to Advanced Standing rules, candidates admitted under Rule (a) may be eligible to exit with the Graduate Certificate in Accounting on completion of AFM403, AFM406 and 12 credit points from AFM410, AFM501, AFM505, AFM519, AFM531, AFM575, ECON406, LSSU451 or LSSU592 or QM461.
Candidates who apply to discontinue their studies must apply for re-admission and will be subject to current course requirements of the Graduate Diploma in Accounting. This may mean that they will not receive full recognition for their previous studies should the course structure have changed in response to University requirements.
Appeals
Candidates are referred to the Academic Assessment Appeals Policy and the Academic Assessment Appeals Procedures.

Improper Conduct

The Graduate Diploma in Accounting is designed to meet the needs of students seeking entry into the Master of Professional Accounting course as well as those who need eight units in accounting and finance to gain accreditation with the Professional Accounting Organisations.
