There are now many ‘johnny-come-lately’ universities in online education. UNE has been delivering distance education since 1955 – that’s longer than any other Australian university. Perhaps that’s why our students continue to rate us so highly for student satisfaction and teaching quality.
Study across three study periods with 24/7 online tutor support. If you don’t have entry qualifications, our free Pathways Enabling Course gives you entry and credit to most of UNE’s undergraduate degrees.
If you prefer to study on-campus, UNE has a campus in Armidale.

At UNE, online study is about the kind of flexibility and support that can only come from a university that has long understood the challenges faced by adults studying from home.
We have three teaching periods (trimesters), commencing in February/March, July and November: giving you greater choice about when and how much they study each year.
Online study can also be referred to as 'distance education' (sometimes also off-campus education, or external study) and provides an opportunity for you to study without having to physically attend a campus.
To make sure your learning can take place when it suits you, UNE provides online facilities which allow you to send questions, submit assignments, order library books, check your results and access other resources, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
As a UNE student, you will have access to our professional support services including:
We believe that a vital part of online study is your engagement with the learning community.
Communication with your classmates, teaching staff and university support staff will enhance your study experience and ensure that your skills extend beyond the subject matter.
UNE’s teaching staff are experts in their field which is why UNE consistently receive five stars from students for teaching quality.
Connect to online support at any time. If you are working on an assignment, you can upload a draft 24/7 and get detailed feedback in less than 24 hours.
Online after hours support (3 pm – 12 am) is available for foundation skills in maths, science, business studies, accounting, economics and statistics.
Academic literacy and assignment support is available for writing, assignments, research, referencing, and study skills.
Some online units have intensive schools (sometimes known as residential schools). They enable you to engage in practical exercises and classes that are designed to achieve specific learning outcomes. Intensive schools are a valuable and enjoyable experience that enrich the learning process and help build your networks.

Maybe you’ve heard about the new NSW Government admission requirements making it harder to get entry to a teaching degree?
Our Teaching Solution Finder makes it easy to navigate the changes and design a study pathway based on your personal circumstances.
We’ve also structured our Bachelor of Education (K-6 Teaching) and Bachelor of Education (Secondary Arts, Mathematics, Music or Science) degrees to meet the BOSTES ‘3 Band 5s including English’ requirements within the first year of study. This means you can become a qualified primary teacher or secondary teacher in the same amount of time as before, even if you don’t meet the new entry standards.
Just answer a few quick questions to find your pathway into a teaching degree.
