Studying the combined Bachelor of Business/Bachelor of Economics gives you more career flexibility and choices when you graduate, as well as the opportunity to explore a range of subjects in-depth.
In this combined degree, you complete a set of core units in economics, accounting, marketing and organisational behaviour, then choose two majors to complete (one from the Bachelor of Business component, one from the Bachelor of Economics component).
Business majors: Accounting, Agribusiness, Business Analytics, Economics, Finance, Human Resource Management, International Business, Management and Marketing.
Economics majors: Applied Econometrics, Economics, Economic Development, Environmental Analysis and Policy.
Combined degrees are structured to enable you to graduate in a much shorter time than it would take to complete the two degrees individually. Each degree on its own is 3 years full-time study, but this combined degree is just 4 years full-time.

Graduates will have the knowledge and skills to pursue a wide range of career paths, including positions in business management; accounting and finance; public services as policy officers, analysts, economic modellers, advisers, trade and industry officers; private-sector positions in financial management, forecasting, banking, insurance and agribusiness firms; business consulting; commodities or futures trader; importer/exporter; international positions with agencies such as the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund and the United Nations.

Admission to Candidature
A candidate shall be qualified for admission (see Admission Undergraduate and Postgraduate (Coursework) Rule and the Admission Undergraduate and Postgraduate (Coursework) Procedures).
Advanced Standing
Candidates are referred to the University Policy on Advanced Standing.
Period of Candidature
The period of candidature shall be:
(a) four years as a full-time candidate;
(b) up to ten years as a part-time candidate.
Course Requirements
To qualify for the award a candidate must pass units to the value of 192 credit points with not more than 72 credit points at 100-level and at least 48 credit points at 300-level with not more than 24 credit points at 400-level.

If units are taken that are common to both Majors then the candidate must complete additional units drawn from the Listed Units of either Major in order to complete the 36 credit points for the Major.
Restricted Majors
The following are restricted combinations of Majors. Candidates can only include ONE of the Majors in their program of study.

Award of Degree
Candidates who meet the course requirements including one Business major and one Economics major shall be awarded the Bachelor of Business/Bachelor of Economics.
Exit Pathways
Subject to meeting Advanced Standing rules candidates who discontinue their studies in the course may be eligible to exit with the Diploma in Business on completion of 48 credit points, of which at least 36 credit points must be from the UNE Business School.
Candidates who apply to discontinue their studies and exit with the Diploma in Business must apply for re-admission and will be subject to current course requirements of the Bachelor of Business/Bachelor of Economics. This may mean that they will not receive full recognition for their previous studies should the course structure have changed in response to University or external accreditation body requirements.
Candidates who discontinue their studies in the course may be eligible to transfer from the Combined Degree Program to either the Bachelor of Business or Bachelor of Economics.

BBus component: The Bachelor of Business aims to create contemporary professionals with a solid grounding in the core business fields of accounting, economics, business ethics, management and marketing needed for organisational survival and success. The course will prepare students to take on a role as a future manager with leadership responsibilities for creating a more inclusive and sustainable global economy. BEc component: The Bachelor of Economics aims to produce professional graduates with the knowledge, skills and attributes required for problem solving and economic decision making across a diverse range of economic issues. This degree provides students with a strong economic and quantitative background that allows them to explore a variety of professional career options. |
