The Graduate Certificate provides graduates with fundamental knowledge about human resource management (HRM). It has been designed to meet the needs of those people wanting to become successful human resource professionals, as well as those who are responsible for managing people and who are concerned with designing, implementing and maintaining innovative HRM practices within their workplaces. The units making up the Graduate Certificate provide students with the opportunity to apply current theory relevant to HRM to their workplace through work-based assessment activities. The Graduate Certificate articulates with the Master of Business Administration and the Master of Strategic Organisational Development and Human Resource Management.

Entry Requirements | A candidate shall submit two referee reports from employers or senior colleagues (on company letterhead) plus a resume; and (a) hold an AQF Level 7 Bachelor qualification or above in a non-relevant discipline and at least two years of full-time equivalent relevant professional experience*; or (b) hold an AQF Level 7 Bachelor qualification or above in a relevant discipline** and at least two years of full-time equivalent relevant professional experience*; or (c) hold an AQF Level 6 Advanced Diploma in a relevant discipline** from an Australian TAFE or Registered Training Organisation and have at least four years of full-time equivalent relevant professional experience*; or (d) hold an approved AQF Level 5 Diploma in a relevant discipline** from an Australian TAFE or Registered Training Organisation and have at least six years of full-time equivalent relevant professional experience*; or (e) have at least five years of full-time equivalent relevant professional experience*. *Relevant professional experience refers to a position of responsibility in any organisational or industry context. **Relevant disciplines include, but are not limited to, Business, Management, Leadership, Human Resource Management, or approved by the course coordinator. |

Advanced Standing | Candidates admitted under Rules (a) and (e) are referred to the University Policy on Advanced Standing. The maximum advanced standing shall be for units counting 12 credit points which were not part of the degree on which admission was based. This may include up to 6 credit points of specified or unspecified advanced standing on the basis of experiential learning, such as management/supervisory work experience that is in addition to the work experience used as the basis of admission (subject to course coordinator approval). Candidates admitted under Rules (b) and (c) shall be granted a maximum of 12 credit points of Block Advanced Standing based on their admission to candidature. Candidates admitted under Rule (d) shall be granted a maximum of 6 credit points of Block Advanced Standing based on their admission to candidature. The maximum additional Advanced Standing shall be for units counting 6 credit points which were not part of the degree on which admission was based. |

Period of Candidature
The period of candidature shall be up to two years as a part-time candidate.
Course Requirements
To qualify for the award a candidate must pass units to the value of 24 credit points with at least 18 credit points at 400-level and not more than 6 credit points at 500-level.

Award of Degree
Candidates who meet the course requirements shall be awarded the Graduate Certificate in Human Resource Management.

The Graduate Certificate in Human Resource Management is designed for those in managerial positions, or for human resource practitioners or those who wish to enter the profession. In today's increasingly complex work environment, human resource management professionals play a critical role in providing value add to the organisation and contributing to the achievement of the organisation's strategic objectives. The Graduate Certificate in Human Resource Management equips students with the skills necessary to help identify, recruit, train, develop and reward employees, thereby contributing to overall business success. The course will enable students to attain the theoretical knowledge, problem solving and analytical skills, and practical experience needed to be an effective human resource practitioner or manager more broadly. A blended learning model is used to enable students to interact with the unit coordinators and each other, creating a collaborative community of learning. |

Students need to reflect on the principles of professional and social responsibility and critically apply these to a range of ethical issues and scenarios.
