Why study the Graduate Certificate in Health Professional Education at UNE?
This course was previously known as Graduate Certificate in Clinical Education and Teaching.
This course is designed to meet the practice needs of educators working with healthcare professionals. It is aimed at a wide range of healthcare professionals including nursing, social work, medicine, pharmacy, psychology, physiotherapy, speech pathologists, dietetics, community health practitioners, occupational therapists and paramedics.
The course provides you with the opportunity to investigate and apply theory and evidence-based practice strategies that will enable you to design, assess and evaluate, face-to-face and online learning, supervise diverse learners in healthcare education contexts.
Career Opportunities
Graduates of this course will be prepared to assume beginning health professional education roles across a range of healthcare disciplines, roles and contexts. This course is designed to reflect a range of health reform agendas to build health educator capacity in a range of settings.

Admission to Candidature
A candidate shall:
(a) have successfully completed a relevant AQF Level 7 Bachelor degree in a health or related discipline from a recognised university in Australia or overseas; or
(b) satisfy the School by means of other relevant qualifications and workplace experience [at least equivalent to admission rule (a)] of adequate preparation for candidature.

Advanced Standing
Candidates are referred to the University Policy on Advanced Standing.
Period of Candidature
The period of candidature shall be:
(a) 0.5 year as a full-time candidate;
(b) up to two years as a part-time candidate.
Course Requirements
To qualify for the award a candidate must pass units to the value of 24 credit points.
Candidates shall complete an approved program of study as outlined in the Course Schedule comprising:

Knowledge of a DisciplineGraduates will possess advanced disciplinary knowledge necessary for the practice of health professional education in a range of healthcare settings. This knowledge is taught, practised and assessed across the course content via written, oral and experiential assessments. Graduates will demonstrate ability to seek out and integrate national and international developments effecting learning and teaching in health care in their practice settings. Communication SkillsGraduates will possess a high level of oral, written and online communication skills relevant to learning and teaching practice in healthcare contexts. Strategies for enhancing interpersonal and interprofessional communication with individual and groups of diverse learners and colleagues is taught, practised and assessed across the course. Graduates will recognise the importance of continuing to develop their oral, written and online communication skills and be able to select and use appropriate communication technologies. Problem SolvingGraduates will apply logical, critical and creative thinking to solve a range of problems commonly arising in learning and teaching practice in healthcare settings.
