UNE offers a range of qualifications in Early Childhood - whether you want to build on your prior study and work experience to become qualified as a four-year trained Early Childhood Teacher, or want a dual qualification to enable you to work in both Early Childhood Centres and Primary Schools.
Our Primary Education programs will qualify you to work as a primary teacher across Australia, and also give you opportunities to study a range of discipline areas, along with professional placements.. Our undergraduate primary teaching degrees can be completed in tandem with either Early Childhood Education or Secondary Teaching, so you’ll graduate with double the career options, or if you already have a degree, we offer a postgraduate Master of Teaching (Primary).
The Bachelor of Education (K-6 Teaching) is an initial-teacher education program to prepare Primary teachers who can teach from Kindergarten to Year 6. The degree structure also allows students to complete a primary teaching specialisation in Mathematics, Science and Technology, and Languages. This degree is structured to meet the NESA ‘3 Band 5s including one in English’ requirements within the first year of study. This means you can become a qualified primary in the same amount of time as before, even if you don’t meet the new entry standards.
We offer a Bachelor of Education (Secondary) in the curriculum areas of Arts, Mathematics, Music and Science. These degrees have teaching areas available in the following disciplines:
Arts: Ancient History (HSIE), Drama, Economics (HSIE), English, Geography (HSIE), Languages, Legal Studies (HSIE), Modern History (HSIE), Society and Culture (HSIE), Studies of Religion (HSIE), Teaching English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EAL/D).
Science: Agriculture, Biology, Chemistry, Earth and Environmental Science, Information Processes and Technology, Mathematics and Physics, Software Design and Development.
Our Bachelor of Education (Secondary Arts, Mathematics, Music or Science) are structured to meet the NESA ‘3 Band 5s including one in English’ requirements within the first year of study. This means you can become a qualified primary in the same amount of time as before, even if you don’t meet the new entry standards.
If you already have an undergraduate degree, we also offer a postgraduate Master of Teaching (Secondary).
Our Bachelor of Special and Inclusive Education (Primary) is one of the few offered in Australia and can be studied either online or on-campus. This degree prepares teachers to work in an inclusive setting (local primary school) or a special class (within a local primary school or within a special school).
The Bachelor of Education (In-Service Conversion) is designed for currently accredited teachers to upskill to a new sector of teaching (i.e. secondary to primary or primary to secondary), or for accredited secondary teachers to upskill to another teaching subject.
UNE provides a range of postgraduate degrees for teachers that are tailored to their demanding lifestyles and varying career aspirations, including teachers working toward an advanced level of accreditation with the NSW Institute of Teachers.
Within the Graduate Certificate in Education Studies you can choose units form a range of study areas such as eLearning, Literac, Inclusive Education, or Career Development , or specialise in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) (also known as Teaching English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EAL/D)).
In the Master of Education, specialisations in eLearning, Indigenous Australian Education, Special Education, and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (also known as Teaching English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EAL/D)) are available.
