Entry Requirements

A candidate shall:

(a) hold an AQF Level 7 qualification; or

(b) have at least three years relevant work experience.

Applicants admitted under rule (b) must submit a referee report from an employer or senior colleague plus a resume.

Practical, Clinical or Work Experience

Students may complete work integrated learning and professional skills development (WORK500) with approved agribusiness institutions OR an overseas study tour (OSSE500) during their course.

Advanced Standing

Candidates are referred to the University Policy on Advanced Standing.

The maximum advanced standing shall be for units counting 12 credit points which are deemed to be equivalent to units offered by UNE and approved for the course and were not part of the degree on which admission was based.

Admission to Candidature

(b) have at least three years of relevant work experience.

Period of Candidature

The period of candidature shall be:
(a) 0.5 years as a full-time candidate;
(b) up to two years as a part-time candidate.

Course Requirements

To qualify for the award a candidate must pass units to the value of 24 credit points including at least 18 credit points at 400- or 500-level.

Course Aims

The Graduate Certificate in Agribusiness is designed for professionals seeking to broaden their professional knowledge in key multi-disciplinary content areas within or beyond their current field of employment.

Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
  1. demonstrate specialised knowledge of agribusiness disciplinary concepts within selected areas of study;
  2. identify, critically evaluate and synthesise relevant information drawn from a range of sources;
  3. apply critical reasoning and advanced analytical skills to solve complex agribusiness problems and issues; and
  4. demonstrate proficiency in information transfer in written and oral formats at a professional level, either independently or working collaboratively.
Graduate Attributes
Knowledge of a Discipline

Students develop advanced knowledge in the area of agribusiness through lectures, tutorials, readings, online activities and interaction with unit coordinators. Knowledge will be assessed through a variety of assessment tasks such as assignments, examinations and report writing. This course emphasises the use and application of business and economic skills in regional, national and international contexts. A global perspective is important in understanding issues confronting agribusiness and associated industries in continuously changing economic, environmental, social and political environments.

Communication Skills

Communication skills are essential in this course and students will develop both written and oral competency. These communication skills will be taught, practised and assessed in numerous activities including written assignments, report writing, oral presentations, and in-class and online discussions.

Problem Solving

Students will combine discipline knowledge with information literacy skills to develop their adeptness in being able to apply critical thinking to identify problems and to formulate solutions, particularly through the application of advanced discipline knowledge to real-world issues.

Information Literacy

Students will use various forms of media to obtain information and data for written assignments and other assessment tasks. Students will be able to use, critically analyse, interpret, construct and communicate information and data.

Ethical Conduct and Social Responsibility

Students are taught numerous dimensions of social responsibility in relation to agribusiness practices. Students will be able to acknowlege and respect the viewpoints and ideas of others, behave ethically, and appreciate the importance of the environment and sustainability.

Lifelong Learning

Lifelong learning skills are taught and practised in assessment tasks. The discipline knowledge, information literacy and problem solving skills obtained in this course equip students with the ability to understand, interpret and critically evaluate regional, national and international issues of relevance to agribusiness.

Independence and Collaboration

Students will have worked independently and collaboratively with a multidisciplinary group to achieve common goals, solve problems, contribute specialist knowledge and contribute to group performance.
