Disability Practice and NDIS Management

Driven by the implementation of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), UNE has developed an innovative and flexible program designed to equip you with the key knowledge and skills to guide you in adopting person-centred approaches to assisting people with a disability and their families. The focus is also on building your expertise in addressing challenging behaviour from a functional assessment perspective.

Our Graduate Certificate in Disability Practice, Graduate Diploma in Disability Practice and Master of Disability Practice  embed a unique approach to training well-informed practitioners by increasing your competencies in:

  • Understanding the scientific basis of disability
  • Planning and delivering evidence-based services to individuals and groups
  • In transforming your business and people management practices within the specific setting of a disability service organisation

The program is designed to give you the skills to help your organisation to lead in the new era of disability-focused service delivery, whether that be in the government, private or community services sector.

Graduate Certificate in Disability Practice

The Graduate Certificate in Disability Practice provides knowledge and skills in accordance with the professional standards and requirements of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). It is designed for support practitioners and others employed by organisations that are delivering disability services, those seeking such employment, and students interested in the disability field from strength-based and client-focussed perspectives. Students will complete in-depth study on disability identification, management, and resourcing by investigating important issues that impact on clients, families and support personnel.

Graduate Diploma in Disability Practice

The Graduate Diploma in Disability Practice is designed for support workers and others employed by organisations that are delivering disability services, those seeking such employment, and students interested in the disability field from strength-based and client-focused perspectives. Students will complete in-depth study on disability identification, management, and resourcing by investigating important issues that impact clients, families, and support personnel.

Master of Disability Practice

The Master of Disability Practice is designed to prepare graduates to work effectively with people who have disabilities. The emphasis will be upon best-practice in the fields of neurodevelopmental, cognitive, behavioural, physical, sensory and other disabilities. Students will be expected to develop evidence-based person-centred assessment and intervention skills, deliverable within a range of frameworks and settings. Functional Behavioural Assessment will be a key feature of this degree.

You will study clinical and neurobiological, professional and ethical issues in disability management and NDIS business management, and be well prepared for the NDIS and the demand for new, client-driven services and support arising from the scheme.

Graduate Certificate in NDIS Business Development

The Graduate Certificate in NDIS Business Development has been designed to enhance your understanding and appreciation of the issues affecting the disability sector. It offers study of both legal and business frameworks which impact upon organisational operations that may affect the optimum delivery of client-focused services.

This qualification will allow existing managers, and those seeking managerial level employment within disability organisations to further their knowledge of legal processes and obligations relevant to organisational business development priorities in the NDIS. The Graduate Certificate in NDIS Business Development will assist with the ongoing refinement of existing managerial skills essential in an environment that has moved nationally to a business development model.

Studying Online

At UNE, online study is about the kind of flexibility and support that can only come from a university that has long understood the challenges faced by adults studying from home.

We have three teaching periods (trimesters), giving you greater choice about when and how much they study each year.

We know that a vital part of online study is your engagement with the learning community. Communication with your classmates, teaching staff and university support staff will enhance your study experience and ensure that your skills extend beyond the subject matter. UNE’s teaching staff are experts in their field which is why UNE consistently receives five stars from students for teaching quality.
